Found a scent you love? A few simple care habits can help you enjoy your soap bar for longer. Start with good drainage, a dry resting place, and protection from the shower spray.

Give your bar a place to drain

After washing, place your soap on a dish with drainage holes, grooves, or raised slats. Check that water can escape underneath it, rather than collect around the base.

A bar left in standing water can soften and become harder to handle.

Keep it away from running water

Choose a spot away from the direct shower spray and dripping taps. Even a draining dish cannot keep your soap dry if water keeps reaching it.

Lather the bar, then return it to its dish while you finish washing.

Let it dry between uses

Leave space around your soap so air can reach it. If your dish collects water, empty it and keep it clean.

In a busy bathroom where the bar stays wet throughout the day, alternating between two bars can give each one more drying time.

Store spare bars somewhere cool and dry

Keep unused soap away from direct sunlight, radiators and steamy bathroom shelves. Follow the storage instructions on the packaging and keep spare bars in their original wrapping until needed.

Some glycerin-rich soaps can attract moisture from humid air, so leaving every unused bar unwrapped is not always the best approach.

Pack carefully when travelling

Allow your soap to dry before putting it into a closed travel case whenever possible. If you need to pack it while damp, open the case at your destination and let the bar dry.

How long should a soap bar last?

There is no single answer. Bar size, formulation, frequency of use, and storage conditions all affect how quickly it is used up. Good drainage helps you get more use from each bar.
